Met Office Observer Rainfall - difference between the storage rain gauge network and the Environment Agency's automatic gauge network

Created: 30 March 2023 Updated: 30 March 2023

The Environment Agency’s storage gauge rainfall network measures precipitation at a daily and/or a monthly time step. Measurements of the amount of precipitation (mm) are captured in storage rain gauges which are mainly read by volunteers usually on a daily basis. The Environment Agency also has a network of automatic precipitation gauges that are connected to telemetry and measure precipitation totals every 15 mins.
